This cemetery in Keren, Eritrea houses the remains of British, Italian, Sikh, Muslim, and Jewish soldiers who died fighting for the United Kingdom and India during World War II.
The Keren War Cemetery is located in Keren, fifty-six miles outside of the Eritrean capital [1]. Keren was the last Italian stronghold in Eritrea during World War II and was the site of the most decisive battle in East Africa in 1941 [2]. After ten days of grueling combat, thousands of Commonwealth soldiers forced Italy’s surrender [3]. The cemetery contains over four hundred graves, divided into Christian, Muslim, Sikh Hindu, and Jewish sections [1]. There are thirty-three Jewish graves in the Keren War Cemetery [2].
A picture of a Jewish grave in the cemetery is visible here: http://www.asmera.nl/eritrea2011/eritrea26052011.htm and the same grave is also here: http://www.asmera.nl/eritrea2011/Eritrea11052611.JPG.
