Mudiyah (מודיה, مودية), Yemen

Mudiyah (מודיה, مودية), Yemen.

Description

Prior to the mass immigration, Mudiyah had a sizeable Jewish population. They lived in the village and also in the towns nearby. There was one synagogue which had a mikveh and a bet midrash adjacent to it. Men would sit on the floor of the synagogue on mats and pillows and ladies would sit in the adjacent bet midrash. The local ruler was Abd Al-Hassan, who was Jewish from his mother and he was kind to the Jews in the village. There were many Moris in the village and they handled the religious needs of the community. The cemetery was outside the village.
