Jewish Presence in Tozeur: Scholars believe that Jews first starting living in Tozeur during antiquity and the early Islamic period. The modern Jewish community of Tozeur was established in the 20th century. Most Jews in Tozeur lived in the old city, working as traders, artisans, and goldsmiths. Today, the Jewish community of Tozeur no longer exists as most of the community left during the German occupation of Tunisia which lasted from 1942-1943.
