The current Ashkenazi synagogue (built in 2008) is built on the site of an older synagogue. A former military depot in later Soviet times, the building was renovated back into a synagogue after the fall of the Soviet Union.
The building is home to the Chabad (Ashkenazi) minyan and is also the synagogue of the Georgian Jews. A small community consisting of both Georgian and Mountain Jews.
