Description

The village was about a two day walk from from Sana'a. It had about 80 families and the synagogue was in the center of the village and adjacent to it was the Bet Midrash. In the Bet Midrash, boys would study religious subjects in the morning and math in the afternoon. There were different committees in the village which had different roles, ie: synagogue, looking after the poor, education, etc. Girls did not attend school and the boys needed to pay the teacher with both money and food. A man named Hamami was the teacher and the shohet was Yihya Gamal. The synagogue was a simple building of one story. The cemetery was south of the village and there was a special place for tahara near the cemetery.
