The Soncino (Mahazike Torah מחזקי תורה) Synagogue in Izmir, Turkey.
The Synagogue was first established in 1722.
During the 19th Century, the Turkish Authorities pushed an edict for the Synagogues demolition on the grounds that it closely resembled the local Hisqar Mosque. The Jewish Community was able to come together to stop the edict from taking effect.1
Coordinates from winter 2017 trip.
