Description

Grave of Jose Bensaúde

Next to the fort of Santa Catarina, located in the connecting bar in the town of Santa Cruz, is buried Jose Bensaúde, brother of Abraham Bensaúde, Jewish imigracio pioneer on the island of São Miguel and founder of the Azorean Bensaúde Branch. Jose Bensaúde lived on the island between 1827 and 1832, the year of his death.

David Bensabat, although born on Terceira, had his business on Graciosa, in the 1920s. On the island, Abraham Serrafe settled here, where he lived for more than fifty years. He never married and lived in the old Salazar street in Santa Cruz.

In 1939, a small tomb was repaired at the expense of the  Bensaúde Family by building a carved stone guard then, a screen in carved stone.

Tumulo de Jose Bensaude

Junto ao forte de Santa Catarina, sito no ligar da Barra, na vila de Santa Cruz, esta enterrado Jose Bensaude, irmao de Abraao Bensaude, pioneiro de imigracio Judaica na ilha de Sao Miguel. Jose Bensaude tera vivido na ilha entre 1827 e 1832, ano da sua morte.

Em 1939, o pequeno tumulo foi reparado a expensas da familia construindo se, entao, um resguardo em pedra lavrada.

David Bensabat, estabelecido na ilha Terceira, teve negocios na ilha Graciosa, nos anos vinte de oitocentos. Na ilha, tambem se estabeleceu Abraao Serrafe, onde viveu durante mais de cinquenta anos. Nunca se casou e Morava na antinga rua Dr. Salazar, em Vila de Cruz.
